Just had to laugh when I read that you’re going to talk about teaching vocabulary….. I teach in Florida and my kindergarten students are very weak in the area of vocabulary. I decided to focus on this for my Professional Development goal since I could use the data from the FAIR assessment. Well, my principal said “no” because he only wants math or reading goals. Last time I checked, vocabulary development played a huge role in reading. Do you agree?
Lucille,
I believe that vocabulary plays a big part in reading, writing, and mathematics (as well as social studies and science). My new math book has a vocabulary section in each chapter!
