A family affair

This year it was once again a family affair at our institute in Houston. My husband, Tom, and our son, Jon, worked registration. Also, Tom is in charge of the institute and did a great job of helping everyone feel welcome at the JW Marriott. A big thank you to my two guys!!!

(We missed having our daughter, Jessica, with us this year, but she’s working on Sapolo Island off the coast of GA doing research.)

Jon and Kelly work the check-in desk. Love the red "help line" phone!

Tom poses with the girls at the book table.

We are so excited to be hosting our 4th Annual Summer Institute in Houston in just one month! We still have spaces available! The dates are July 15-17, 2010. This is a really special event that my husband, Tom, dreamed up several years ago. He was getting tired of me being on the road all the time. So he said, “Let’s have a conference here in Houston and have people come here.” Being a good wife, I agreed. (LOL) We have so much fun at these events!

We begin planning almost a year in advance. First, we host the event at a lovely hotel. (Tom picks the venue.) We will be at the J.W. Marriott right across from the Galleria (for those of you who love to shop afterward!). There is a Container Store, a DSW Shoes, and Lakeshore Learning right around the corner, too. What’s not to love about that?

For months, I gather new information to present. Every year I present brand-new information at our institute. It’s become a special time to launch new learning. This year’s themes are:

Thursday- “Taking the Next Step: Adding Rigor and Relevance to Literacy Work Stations and Small Group Reading Instruction in Grades 3-6″
Friday- “Meaningful MATH Work Stations for K-2″
Saturday- “From Routine to Rigor in Reading and Writing: Connecting Whole Group, Small Group, and Literacy Work Stations in K-2″

We have lots of fabulous door prizes, and this year we’re even having vendors! For more information and to register online, please go to my website. Hope you can join us in Houston this summer! Gretchen, Pam, Christe, Kelly, and Tom will all be there, too. Our son, Jon, may even help with registration this year. (It is truly a family affair.)
