Feeling totally rejuvenated after taking a vacation in the mountains of Colorado. What beautiful country! Tom and I visited Estes Park, Nederland, Boulder, Breckenridge, and Aspen. We loved the mountains and the cooler weather. It was a shock to return to the heat and humidity of Houston, but we were glad to be home again!
It was good to have time to relax and rejuvenate after working all summer. Looking forward to a wonderful new school year!
Debbie, can I ask you for input with a student?
I have a 4th grade regular ed student who is extremely bright. He is the student who participates in all discussions and always knows the answers in class.
However, there is an issue with reading. He reads very quickly but comprehends little. He often can not tell you what he has read. He reads so fast that he ignores punctuation marks and pauses. According to STAR reading, his reading grade equivalent is 5.8 and his ZPD is 3.9-5.9. It’s true he can pick up those books and read them but he often can not even tell us who the main characters were or what happened.
I think we need to force him to slow down with marked stopping points. I want to prompt him with sticky notes or something to consider who, what, when, where, why…probably on each page.
Do you have any other ideas? I would really appreciate your help. 🙂
