Being the mom of two grown children, many of my favorite children’s books come from long ago. One of the best times of day was when we’d cuddle together at night and read books together. Here are some I loved and shared with Jon and Jessica:
- Pat the Bunny
- Goodnight Moon
- The Owl and the Pussycat
- The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes
- The Relatives Came
- Roxaboxen
- Fantastic Mr. Fox
- The Giver
- The Cay
- Julie of the Wolves
- Johnny TremainÂ
- Where the Sidewalk Ends
I collect poetry books. Here a few of my new favorites:
- The Robin Makes a Laughing Sound: A Birder’s Journal by Sally Wolf
- Guyku: A Year of Haiku for Boys by Bob Raczka
- Dogku by Andrew Clements
- Messing Around on the Monkey Bars by my friend, Betsy Franco
My daughter is almost 20 and I, too, remember those days fondly. We ready every single night, sometimes two and three and four books …. Being a teacher of 1st and 2nd graders gives me an excuse to read them again! We liked those same classics, but our daughter also loved Tacky, the odd penguin…we couldn’t read those enough times to suit her.
