As I wrote this week in my “Month of Giving” post on Facebook, I’m setting up a 2nd grade classroom library. This classroom is in an old, poorly lit portable building. Not done yet, but here is a before picture and the first few photos I’ve taken. Love the new seats made from crates with cushions on top. Added white plastic shelves from WalMart and dollar store baskets. Books must still be sorted and labeled. More to come…
Debbie~ I love the crate idea! Can you tell me how you made these! I have three empty crates in my room that are empty and this would be a great purpose! Thanks for sharing this idea!
Shannon,
I got some 2″ thick foam from a fabric store and cut it the same size as the top of the crate, using an electric kitchen knife. Then I sewed a 2-sided pillow cover and left one side open. I inserted the foam rectangle into the pillow cover. Finally, I stitched the seam by hand to enclose the foam cushion. Voila! A seat cushion!
I need your help! I have no/very little wall space in my classroom. I have 2 double sided bookshelves on wheels. Where would be a good spot for my library? I have tried a few different ways and I am not happy. I can provide you with a picture of my room if you need.
Thanks!
